Hair photography is normally organized by the stylist wanting the shots. Hair shoots looks are driven by the stylist and maybe a moodboard. I can set up backdrops/lighting and direct the models but the tone and feel of the shoot should originate creatively from you.
We agree beforehand on a location (sometimes your salon) and style for the shots. I will bring the gear I need, like lights and backdrops, and set up about an hour before the first model is ready. Depending on what’s needed I will be 15-30 minutes with that person and can show you on a screen how the shots are looking.
It’s helpful if the stylist is present for some/all of the time to check we are getting results that align with their vision. They may need to leave to prepare another model or do a restyle for another look eg new look or distress the current one. If we are doing multiple models then it’s best to stagger them so there isn’t a lot of waiting around. Put a lot of care into selecting your model, it makes a huge difference to the final result. You will get sent proof images to make your selection from, and then the final edits after that.

Hair Photography FAQ
How do I book?
Just send me a message, but make sure you mention your preferred date so I can check my calendar and the theme or style you are wanting so I know what equipment/location we are talking about. A $50 non-refundable deposit is needed to confirm your booking.
How do I select a hair photographer?
Have a look at each photographer’s examples and make sure you like the style of the pictures they make generally. You want to make sure you have similar tastes to them as well as see people who shoot with a similar style to you. Maybe follow them on social media to see consistency and their personality.
What if I need to change the date or cancel?
You will lose your deposit if you cancel the shoot after booking. Other money paid will be refunded (unless costs have been incurred eg hiring a location).
How do I prepare for the shoot?
I work with all sorts of people. Some are relaxed and some detail orientated, but everyone needs to go into the shoot with an understanding of the theme. The best way to do that is by having a chat at the time of booking and to look at similar results by me. The main things you will need to decide on is the location, lighting style (natural/studio), and wardrobe. I can help out with posing and direction at the shoot if I know what you are hoping for as a result, reference shots or a mood board is really helpful.
When will I get the photos?
I normally send through lightly edited proofs in a few days, and once I know your selects it will be another few days for finals.
How many photos do I get from a hair photography session?
You can get as many as you want. Normally you will know what you specifically need from the use, eg competitions will specify the format and number of shots. You choose additional shots for other uses, like social media etc, and I just add on the time it takes to edit those. You can download and keep all the proofs, they often are good shots and totally usable as well.
